Policy at CDF

CDF helps to inform central and local government, statutory agencies, partnerships, health agencies and voluntary organisations about the value of community development and involvement to the process of planning, funding and managing programmes and achieving more sustainable and successful outcomes for communities.

CDF seeks to ensure that large-scale programmes and policies reflect the needs of communities, and that local people's energies and talents contribute to these programmes.

We feed our knowledge and experience of good practice into a host of government-led initiatives.

Strategic Aims and Objectives 2006 – 2009

CDF’s work aims to achieve significant advances for community development over the next three years.

We will develop policy, improve practice and exchange knowledge to meet our key aims to deliver:

  • Aim A:  Stronger Communities and Community Sector. To ensure that communities become more capable of controlling their own circumstances and that the community sector is better able to play a constructive role in society.
  • Aim B:  Cohesive Communities. To improve and increase the capacity and capability of communities to manage diversity and resolve conflicts.
  • Aim C:  Engaged Communities. To increase the ability of individuals and communities to participate effectively in local decision-making, in order to improve public service delivery, strengthen democratic processes and deliver sustainable communities.
