The strain of the recession on public sector budgets has put many community development (CD) workers’ positions and projects under threat.
In this environment, CD workers in local authorities cannot afford to be invisible within their organisations, and must instead actively demonstrate the contribution CD can make to achieving public sector objectives. As a public sector CD worker, part of your job will be demonstrating the importance of your work and proving its impact; in short, making the case for CD.
This guidance is designed to help keep CD alive in places where it is in danger of dying out. The Community Development Foundation (CDF) is working to support CD workers in local authorities to build a case for their roles, their projects and for CD in general. This guidance is the first product of this work, and aims to get CD workers thinking about decision makers’ agendas, and how CD work contributes to these goals.
