Strong communities: supporting the development of a skilled community development workforce
We support the development of a skilled and recognised community development workforce which is able to demonstrate its effectiveness.
Our work in this area covers promotion of the CD occupation, research and lobbying to address the challenges that CD faces, and development of the qualification and credit framework.
Past projects have included:
- A review of the Community Development Challenge report, setting out the progress made since the publication of the report and highlighting the areas where work is still required.
- Survey of CD Workers and Managers 2009
Currently, we are:
- Working with other national CD organisations to develop and promote a qualification and credit framework for CD, by:
- Funding a summary and guide to using the National Occupational Standards for CD (delivery by the Federation of Community Development Learning (FCDL));
- Funding the development of a new qualification framework for CD (delivery by Val Harris).
- Engaging with the Homes and Communities Agency on empowerment skills, and the relationship between empowerment and CD.
- Undertaking a high-level independent inquiry into the CD workforce (summer 2010).
